Case Study: Writing
My earliest influence for me was writing rhymes and poems as little kids.
The best time for me to write is after I’ve had a little brain food and a good nap.
When I write I like to be entertaining and write with cynical humor. Thoughts for writing usually come easiest when I have music playing. In my opinion music has a unique way of bringing out thoughts and emotions used in writing. It is your bodies natural reaction to move to the beat of a song you are listening to. Especially when typing.
I do not write well with an audience. The hardest thing about writing for me is remembering all the punctuation and grammar rules. I enjoy and am good at writing about real life scenarios like survival stories, not science-fiction stuff like dragons, aliens, or monsters; not my forte. Sometimes when I write I add more detail than I should and it totally distracts from what I’m actually trying to say, making me look ridiculous. I believe the most important aspect of writing is trying to bring out ideas in a way that helps them make sense to people in general.
It’s a necessity that you make sense of what you are saying or else it’s pointless to even write because only you can understand. It’s really hard for me to write for prolonged periods of time unless, I have music. If you haven’t guessed music is a pretty big deal in my life and probably influences some of my best writing. Research papers for me are the worst writing assignments on the planet; so much work and data that I can’t keep everything straight and organized. I don’t write much for myself only for other people, namely teachers and only for a good grade, I would not write a paper for an assembly unless it was required.
I remember writing a five-hundred word essay back in elementary school which was an incredible feat for a little kid, but after I started writing I realized the words started coming more easily. I also recall a bibliography that I and I alone had to write and edit at the last second because my partner, whom was playing computer games, was too stupid and lazy to do it himself while I was typing up captions for our poster board.
My whole goal of writing is to be entertaining and funny, as I said before I like to write with cynical humor therefore, I have a cynical and sarcastic tone as a writer. I always used to dread writing assignments and some I still do, but over time I’ve grown accustomed, comfortable, and confident about my writing abilities. I think my strengths as a writer are writing good hooks and introductions. My weaknesses as a writer are punctuation and grammar as well as the flow of a story, I often finding myself going back and rewriting an entire paragraph four or five times just because it doesn’t flow or doesn’t sound good. All in all, I believe I am a good writer, but with a lot of room for improvement, then again who isn’t?
